An oral tablet for erectile difficulty. It belongs to the PDE5 class — it relaxes blood vessels so that, once you're aroused, blood flows in more easily and an erection is easier to get and keep. Nothing is prescribed unless a licensed physician determines it is appropriate for you.
Sildenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor, one of the longest-used medicines for erectile dysfunction. It works on blood flow: it relaxes the vessels that fill the penis, so arousal can translate into a firmer, longer-lasting erection. It does not create arousal on its own — you still need to feel it.
Taken by mouth roughly an hour before intimacy, as your physician directs, rather than every day. A heavy or fatty meal and alcohol can delay how quickly it works.
Tell your physician about heart disease, chest pain, low or high blood pressure, recent stroke, liver or kidney problems, or any eye condition. It must never be combined with nitrates or certain blood-pressure medicines — bring a full list of everything you take.
